Querido Familia y Amigos,
Transfers
are today, and luckily I'm staying here in Pasadena to finish out my
training with Hermana Lisyanskaya. President has had some of the new
missionaries train after only 6 weeks of being in the field. Yikes! But
thankfully he's only done that with the English missionaries. Juggling a
language and training after 6 weeks would be too much for this Latina.
So I'll be here till July 9th
at least. Hopefully longer, because I am LOVING my area, ward, and
investigators. This last week was a great one. We definitely saw some
miracles. While we were visiting our favorite trailer park we both
thought it would be good to go to this one trailer. We met a 12 yr girl
named Clarissa outside one night, and she said to come visit her house
one day. She had given us the trailer number, so we decided to visit.
Her mom answered the door and let us come in. As we were talking and
getting to know her we found out she and her husband are members!! They
haven't been in about 7 years. Well, basically she told us all her
problems and how she is worried about her daughter Clarissa. We promised
her that Heavenly Father loves her family, and wants to help her. She
said she still believes but has some doubts. Don't we all struggle with
that sometimes? Anyway, she told a sweet story about how Clarissa use to
ask her mom to sing "Soy un Hijo de Dios" when she was 4 yrs old. My
inspired companera asked if we could sing that song for her before we
left. As we did she just sat there as sobbed while rocking her baby. It
was such a great experience. She thanked us for helping her feel the
Spirit, and told us to come back so we could help her daughter too. This
gospel really blesses families. God really is a God of miracles. I know
He led us to that trailer so we can help the Cardonas family.
When we sang that song for her I had to really control myself while
I watched her crying. I was so overwhelmed with the Spirit, because it
brought back the most comforting memories of my mom singing me that song
before bed every night. She helped me find my identity at an early age,
that I am a child of God. What a comfort it is to have the gospel.
Many more things happened this week. We got to do exchanges with
our Sister Trainer and taught some great investigators with members
present! That's all for now.
Love,
Hermana Salcido
